Fan+ Membership

Fan+ is a platform-wide membership for people who use Makenot.work tools but don’t distribute content, and fans who want to support the platform.

What Fans Get

Fan+ members receive:

  • Credit system: Monthly credits that can be used toward purchases on the platform
  • Fan+ mark (+): Appended to your handle on your profile and across the site. Creators have a c mark in the same position; the two are mutually exclusive.
  • Platform support: Direct contribution to keeping the platform running with 0% creator fees

Fan+ will never gate access to any creator’s content. It is separate from per-project membership tiers (which fans join); a fan can have both Fan+ and project memberships.

How It Works

Joining

Fans join Fan+ from their account settings and pay $8/month through Stripe on a monthly billing cycle.

Managing the Membership

From account settings, fans can:

  • View their current membership status and billing period
  • See when the current period started and when it renews
  • Cancel at any time

Cancellation

Benefits continue until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds.

Creators and Fan+

Creators do not need a Fan+ subscription to access Fan+ features. Every Fan+ benefit ships to creator accounts by default, with two exceptions:

  • The + mark is fan-only. Creators carry a c mark instead, in the same position on the handle. The two marks are mutually exclusive: a creator account does not display +, and a fan account does not display c.
  • The monthly credit allowance is fan-only. It is a redistribution mechanism funded by Fan+ subscription revenue, not a per-account perk.

Any other feature introduced under Fan+ (current or future) is automatically available to creators without a separate subscription.

For Creators

Fan+ is managed entirely by the platform. No creator configuration needed.

How Fan+ credits interact with your payouts

When a Fan+ member spends their monthly credits on your work, the credit is applied as a discount on the line item at checkout. Because checkout charges run directly against your connected Stripe account (the same Direct Charges model that lets us hold no platform float and take a 0% fee), the discounted amount is what lands in your payout. The platform does not reimburse the discount.

In plain terms: if a Fan+ member buys a $10 item using $5 of monthly credit, you receive the payout on $5, not $10 (minus Stripe’s processing fee on the $5 net charge). The credit costs MNW only the Fan+ subscription revenue that funds it; the rest of the price reduction is absorbed by the creator who made the sale.

This is the same way creator-issued promo codes work. The discount comes off your line item. The difference is that Fan+ credits are issued by MNW, not by you. If you do not want Fan+ credits redeemable against your catalog, contact info@makenot.work; opt-out tooling is on the roadmap but not yet self-serve.
